Tonight, my son, Jack, was crowned the 2025 Kayhi Homecoming King. His dad was sitting next to me, along with his sister, and we were all beaming with pride. I’m pretty sure tears were leaking out of Desiree’s eyes.
I am so proud of the man Jack is growing into. He is kind, thoughtful, smart, and driven. He treats people with respect and carries himself with a quiet confidence that others are drawn to. His teachers love him. His peers look up to him. And yes—he is wildly popular.
So popular, in fact, that for the last few years I’ve talked with him often about how it’s nice to be popular, but even more important to be a person worth knowing. About inner excellence—doing the right thing when no one is watching, including others, keeping your word, and treating people with respect and dignity. From what I can tell, he’s been hearing me.
I remember my sweet baby boy who loved to cuddle and was absolutely a mama’s boy. He is still my baby boy—just a lot taller, with a fan club, and now a crown.
I am so proud of the man he is.
I am lucky to be his mom.
