A couple of days ago, I wrote about international travel, dancing, talk of boundaries, thoughtfulness and care—and about not getting attached to fantasy.

What I should have included was the word discernment.

Because something happened—abruptly—

that broke the very fantasy I told myself I wouldn’t get caught up in.

Not a big dramatic thing.

Just a simple joke,

and the exchange that followed.

Subtle.

Quiet.

But off enough that my body noticed

before my mind tried to smooth it over.

My intuition spoke.

My nervous system registered it.

This isn’t right.

So I didn’t rationalize it.

I didn’t negotiate with myself.

I didn’t linger.

I didn’t look for reasons to stay engaged.

I trusted my body.

I listened to the subtle cue that whispered,

use your discernment.

And I left.

Almost simultaneously, something else happened—

something that made me smile.

The universe,

apparently unconcerned with my overthinking, intervened.

A constellation of new connections sparked to life,

with one standout possibility and a dinner date worth bragging about.

Thank you discernment for doing exactly what you're meant to do.
