Along The Way

I’ve seen this crocheted flower bouquet blanket on TikTok for a while now, and I absolutely loved it.

Sweet.

Lovely.

And a challenge.

I thought to myself,

Someday, when I am good enough,

I'm going to make that.

So after a month of teaching myself how to crochet,

I decided to tackle it.

I searched Etsy for a pattern,

sent Jack on a late-night yarn run to Walmart,

and off I went.

A little hesitant—

but knowing I had enough knowledge and skill to figure it out along the way.

The blanket part?

That went smoothly.

No real problems there.

I just had to ask for a little help now and then to get clarity on where exactly to put my stitches.

The leaves, though,

They threw me off immediately.

The pattern was terrible.

So I did what I always do:

I researched, experimented,

and used the tools at hand to create something that actually looked good.

Then, because I no longer trusted the pattern,

I went in search of rose alternatives.

I spent way too much time researching and testing different rose buds…

only to circle right back to the original rose in the pattern.

I’m proud to say I’m almost done.

Just twenty more roses to go,

and this crochet challenge will be complete.

It’s been a process of doing, learning, adapting, changing course, sometimes going back and starting over.

And perseverance, because crochet takes time.

A lot of it.

This blanket feels like a perfect reflection of my life right now.

Not linear.

Lots of that worked

and lots of figure it the fuck out.

Full of adjustments and missed stitches.

And something beautiful and rewarding.

And despite the bumpy path,

I've created beautiful things along the way.
