Christmas Wins

Since Desiree has been home, the house has been filled with energy, enthusiasm, and Christmas music. We watched Christmas movies together last night, and today we set up the tree. Jack did a great job lighting it, and Desiree and I handled the decorating.
It was wonderful to travel back through time as we hung each ornament—sweet photo ornaments of Desiree, Emily, and Jack through their elementary school years; Sesame Street, Superman, Batman, and The Little Mermaid memories mixed in with artisan finds and classic Walmart specialties. Every ornament carried a story.
As we were getting down to the last few ornaments, a nontraditional Christmas song came on Spotify, and Desiree immediately skipped it.
“Hey, why did you skip that one?” Jack asked.
“I don’t like it,” she said. “It’s too Gangster.”
Jack quickly corrected her. “Not too gangster—too Gangsta.”
I wasn't sure whether to be proud or worried.
On the one hand, Jack clearly understands the difference between gangster and Gangsta. Win.
On the other… neither of them seemed to care for Run DMC.
I’ll take the win.
