Twelve Hours

I went on a second date that lasted twelve hours.

We didn’t plan for twelve hours. Neither of us expected it. It just happened.

Naturally.

Easily.

Like there was nowhere else either of us needed to be.

Hours of exploring an island I’d never visited before. Great restaurants. Outstanding food. Incredible views. Cool architecture. Lots of wandering.

But the real highlight wasn’t where we went.

It was the conversation.

Talking with someone who was, in so many ways, still almost a stranger somehow felt like butter. Every time a new topic surfaced, I found myself surprised by another similarity. Not just shared interests, but shared ways of thinking. Similar life experiences. Similar values. Similar belief systems. Similar personal work. Even oddly similar lifestyles that are surprisingly difficult to find.

Twelve hours slipped by, not because of chemistry alone, but because of genuine curiosity and the simple enjoyment of getting to know another human being.

The evening ended with a sweet embrace, a few simple kisses, and a promise to stay connected.

But this isn’t really about the date.

It’s about me.

It’s about finally being ready.

Ready to apply everything life has spent years teaching me.

To trust myself.

To notice what my body is telling me instead of explaining it away.

To have high standards without apologizing for them.

To choose discernment over fantasy.

To understand that two wonderful dates don’t tell me who someone is. Consistency over time does.

To allow something to unfold naturally instead of rushing ahead to write a story that hasn’t been lived yet.

The twelve-hour date wasn’t the most important part.

The most important part was realizing that I am showing up differently than I ever have before.

And that is what matters more than anything.
