As I prepare to head home tomorrow,

gratitude keeps finding me.

Time with my family.

A quiet pause from the pace of my life.

A breath of fresh air before I dive back into the deep.

I’m thankful for all those years of cooking full Thanksgiving dinners—

because it turns out I can walk into a completely new kitchen

and still run it like a pro.

My sister’s best friend looked at me like I was some kind of culinary sorceress.

It was funny.

And beneath all of it, gratitude for the tenderness and love that still lives in me—

for the way I remain soft and strong,

still here, still love, still me.

And, finally, I am thankful for you.

Truly.
