Late Night Musings

I watched a meeting online recently.

It was interesting.

The content.

The discussions.

Public participation.

The audience.

I watched you sitting toward the back.

Not your normal seat.

I noticed who you sat next to.

Who you talked to.

I wasn’t surprised.

Or bothered.

Or any of that.

But it did make me wonder.

How much did you talk to that person

while they were actively working against me?

Running campaigns.

Questioning my work.

My judgment.

Trying to remove me from my seat.

I know you are a trusted advisor to many.

Respected.

Valued.

Sought out.

Seeing the two of you together

got me thinking.

If you talked about me—

or the recall—

or any of it—

Did you tell them the whole story?

Did you tell them you were my primary advisor?

My teacher?

The person who taught me how to be an elected official?

Who taught me how the school board works,

how the two entities work together?

Did you tell them about the conversations we had

at your dinner table?

Did you tell them those conversations continued

afterward—

while we were in your bed?

Did you tell them we talked through the negative fund balance together?

That you were just as blindsided as I was?

Did you tell them

you moved on past it too,

Thinking it wasn’t that big of a deal?

Did you tell them you supported the restructuring?

That you were part of those conversations too?

I’m just curious.

I know how important disclosures are.

Conflicts of interest.

Transparency.

So I wonder—

Where do I fall on that scale?

I know you aren't held to the same scrutiny as me.

But I am curious, genuinely.
