Bed Of Nails

A few nights ago, I was scrolling through TikTok waiting for sleep to come.

Tiktok was helping me get to sleep by showing me new crochet stitches,

travel destinations I bookmarked and promptly forgot about,

and by expanding my foreign language skills with proper French word pronunciations I don't remember.

And then, out of nowhere,

videos of people standing on Sadhu boards started appearing in my feed.

If you don’t know what a Sadhu board is,

it is essentially a modern version of a bed of nails.

It is a wooden board embedded with hundreds of evenly spaced nails that you stand on barefoot.

It sounds uncomfortable.

It looks intense.

It is very much not a casual activity.

At first, I scrolled past.

But then more appeared.

And more.

And before I knew it, I was captivated.

What surprised me most was not the visuals.

It was the physical response.

I felt a strange, unmistakable pull in my body,

like my nervous system itself was paying attention.

Not curiosity exactly. More like recognition.

As if something in me was saying,

we need that.

What I was watching,

beneath the surface,

was people moving through discomfort.

Through an immediate fight or flight response.

Into regulation.

Through breath.

Through presence.

Through staying instead of escaping.

So I did what I do. I researched.

Sadhu boards are said to help with nervous system regulation,

stress tolerance, mental focus,

emotional resilience, and embodiment.

They are often described as similar to cold plunges without the cold water.

A way to safely practice staying calm while your body is screaming otherwise.

Which, honestly, explains why it caught my attention.

So I bought one.

It shipped today.

I am looking forward to using it.

At least, I think I am.

And if nothing else,

this is further proof that marketing absolutely works when it lands in front of the right person, at midnight, when they are scrolling TikTok instead of sleeping.
